Councillors have hit back at plans to build a new hotel and office complex opposite Watford Junction.

Liberal Democrat councillors have released a newsletter in support of a petition launched by campaign group Cassiobury House Action Group.

The petition is aiming to stop the proposed plans to demolish Cassiobury House, a 1970s building on Station Road.

If the plans submitted by applicant Tellon Capital, were to be approved then the six-storey office building would be removed and replaced with 43,000sq ft of office space and a 168-bed with a restaurant and car parking spaces.

In the newsletter, which mentions Cllrs Steve Bolton, Stephen Giles-Medhurst, Cllr Aga Dychton and Cllr Rabi Martins, people are being urged to sign the petition against the plans.

It read: "Your councillors are fully behind the action group and are opposing the plans following the refusal of the developers to consider any meaningful changes to what they showed residents and councillors before submitting their plans."

Myles Sinclair who set up the campaign group with 10 other members addressed many concerns about the plans including the height of the building which Mr Sinclair said would "encroach" on the back gardens of people living in Canterbury Road.

He also mentioned there would be noise from the "round the clock" hotel and impact on neighbour's privacy.

Cllr Giles-Medhurst also has spoken with the campaign group and said there have been online meetings with senior council planners to talk about their concerns.

He said: "We have spoken to the developers privately and our greatest
disappointment is not a single one of those concerns have been
taken on board.

"The scheme for a hotel seven storey wing which would come so close to the houses in Canterbury Road - it wouldn't even be the same height levels to the properties on that road. It's unacceptable.

"The hotel car park would become a 24/7 car park and restaurant and
there is no amenity planting protection for residents who have to put up
with the disturbance."

Cllr Giles-Medhurst also mentioned the trees on Westland Road which are currently shielding the view of the building would have to be removed to make way for the development.

He added: "I would feel uncomfortable if I knew such a high storey building could
possibly be built near to my garden. In it's current form this scheme is
unacceptable and should be refused."

Tellon Capital have been contacted for comment.
