Many of us can remember where we had our first pint or which place became our regular haunt on a Friday night, but so many pubs in the Watford area are no longer around.
The demise of local pubs has been discussed on our new nostalgia Facebook group, We grew up in Watford, where John Elsen lamented the demise of The Wheatsheaf, Three Tuns and the Tantivy and asked which other pubs in the town to close.
This prompted fellow group member Steve Anthony to post pictures of a number of pubs that have disappeared
In addition to the Clarendon Hotel, scroll down the page to see another nine. How many of these do you remember?
OBH, Weymouth Street
The Coachmakers Arms, High Street
Rose and Crown, Market Street
The Tantivy, Queens Road
The Compasses
The Cricketers, Watford Fields
The Eight Bells, High Street
The Essex Arms, High Street
The Green Man
There will be more pictures of old pubs in and around Watford posted on this website tomorrow.
