Opened in 1920 as The Pavilion, North Chingford had its own cinema until 1961.
It can be seen at the picture at the top of this page in 1957 near the corner of Connaught Avenue.
The Cinema changed its name to The Doric during the war to confuse the enemy.
The word Doric was derived from five letters in the word Chingford being picked out of a hat and then re-arranged.
The street scene has changed little since except for the office block that replaced the cinema in the early 1960s.
