Firefighters were called to a building collapse on George Lane in South Woodford.

The roof of a shop with flats above, which was under renovation, collapsed onto the first floor of the building at about 9am on September 10.

Two people left the building before the brigade arrived and firefighters evacuated 11 people from neighbouring properties as a precaution.

There were no reports of any injuries but one woman was treated by London Ambulance Service crews for shock.

Station Commander Shaun Fox, who was at the scene, said: “The roof of the building collapsed into the first floor.

“Our Urban Search and Rescue crews were on scene and a 25m cordon was put in place as a precaution.

“A police search dog carried out an external search of the building and we are satisfied that there were no people in the building.”
