Councillors are due to discuss a petition against a traffic-reduction scheme that received more than 1,560 signatures.
The petition calls for a halt to the low-traffic neighbourhood (LTN) in Bowes until a consultation has been carried out with residents and engagement has taken place with Haringey Council and Transport for London.
It is set to be discussed at a meeting of Enfield Council’s overview and scrutiny committee on Wednesday.
The petition warns the low-traffic scheme involves sealing off access roads, meaning residents will only be able to enter and leave the area via the North Circular Road.
In August, residents warned the LTN – designed to cut ‘rat-running’ between Bowes Road and the North Circular – would lead to longer journeys and more pollution.
In response, Enfield Council said it was doing everything in its power to tackle air pollution and would hold a consultation once the scheme was in place. The consultation is now running and is available here.
The petition against Bowes Primary and Surrounding Streets Quieter Neighbourhood Area passed a key threshold for the number of signatures, triggering a debate among councillors.
The meeting of the overview and scrutiny committee will be livestreamed via the internet from 6pm on Wednesday.
