REMEMBRANCE Sunday will be very different in Royal Wootton Bassett this year because of the coronavirus crisis

And a town councillor has called on the people of Bassett to remember the fallen in a Covid-safe way.

Councillor Tom Patterson is proposing that people put pictures of poppies in their windows in the same way they displayed rainbows for the NHS during the spring.

He said: “It would be really good for Remembrance Sunday because a lot of the parades aren’t going ahead this year because of Covid.

"I think it’s a good way to remember, doing what we did for the NHS, it’s a good way for everyone to get involved.

“As people walk around the town it will show that everyone is still paying their respects and marking the day.

“You can’t take the decision to cancel the parades in any other way than just going with it. It’s not a decision the town council have made, it’s come from the government.

"I think it is a shame but for obvious reasons I can understand why we can’t do it.

“Even in a pandemic we should always remember the people who lost their lives.

"What we have got today is so important, no matter what is going on in life, we should always remember that.”

Mr Patterson is open to feedback on the idea and the council wants to hear any other ideas the people of Bassett might have.
