The rate of coronavirus infection in Waltham Forest has risen above 100 cases per 100,000 residents.

Between October 9 and 16 – the most up-to-date accurate figures – 281 new cases were confirmed at an infection rate of 101.5 cases per 100,000 population.

The week before there had been 265 new cases in the borough which has an approximate population of 275,000 – an infection rate of 95.7.

Data for the most recent four days (October 17-20) is not included as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

In Redbridge, the rate of infection has fallen slightly in the last week.

In the seven days to October 16 there were 383 new lab-confirmed cases at a rate of 125.5, up from a rate of 132 (403 cases) the week prior.

Yesterday, NHS England announced a further 134 people who tested positive had died, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths in hospitals in England to 31,181.

Patients were aged between 36 and 100 years old. All except six (aged 68-91) had known underlying health conditions.
