The public are being invited to have their say on proposals for a new care home.

Chapelfield Care Home at Sewardstone Road, Chingford, is proposed to be Waltham Abbey’s first new care home in 10 years.

An online exhibition is being held online on October 28 so that residents can have their say on the project and the considerations that should be made.

Over the past 10 years in Waltham Abbey Parish, research from healthcare developers Lansdown shows that the over 65 population has increased by 17.8 per cent with 4,012 people in the last 10 years.

And in the local ward of High Beech, almost 45 per cent of residents are already over the age of 55.

Some of plans for the site include:

• Reducing the total building footprint on the sit eby 68 per cent

• Meeting the growing need for care homes

• Delivering high quality care

• Design a modern fit for purpose building which is in character with the surrounding area.

Lansdown have developed various other care homes in the UK including in Loughton and Brentwood.

Richard Hardy, the managing director of Lansdown, said: “After many months spent engaging with Epping Forest District Council and after careful analysis, Lansdown and Fonthill are excited to be consulting with local residents and community groups on our emerging proposals for a new care home on Sewardstone Road.

“Providing dignity in old age has never been more important and the experience of Covid-19 has shown us the fantastic work that our doctors, nurses and care home assistants are doing every day.

“Not only do we believe that the site that we have identified can meet that need, but by developing in a sensitive way we feel that we can do so in a way that significantly enhances the surrounding area.”

A look at the site right now

Situated on Sewardstone Road, the site is currently used as a garden centre, with most of the land being occupied by very extensive glass houses as well as a few dilapidated outhouses.

Anyone wishing to join the online exhibition is asked to visit chapelfieldcarehome.co.uk

If you are unable to make the presentation, a recording can be requested at the project website.
