Around £30,000 worth of tools were stolen from one of Waltham Forest Council’s housing developments in Walthamstow last week.

Cabins at Juniper House on Hoe Street were broken into on November 5 and 19 tools belonging to building company Hill Partnerships Limited were stolen.

The council is calling on residents to get in touch with the police, Crimestoppers or the company if they saw or heard anything unusual between 9.40pm and 10pm that night.

Builders are currently constructing a 17-storey block of 91 new homes and a pre-school nursery on the site, along with a play area, commercial space and “pocket park”.

A council statement issued today said four rotating lasers, five skill saws, three petrol saws, four drills, one paddle mixer and two robotic tools for measuring distance were taken.

They added that stealing such a large number of vehicles meant the criminal or criminals must have had a vehicle of some kind.

Security at the site has increased in response to the theft but it has not been confirmed how this will affect building works, which were originally due to finish early next year before Covid hit.

The council has confirmed that work to join the site up to utilities will begin on November 16, which will involve a week’s worth of possibly disruptive activity at the site’s main entrance.

Police are investigating the theft but have not yet provided their statement.

Residents who have information about the burglary can contact the builders on residents@hill.co.uk or CrimeStoppers anonymously by ringing 0800 555 111.
