A TOY appeal organised by Royal Wootton Bassett and District Rotary Club will bring joy to many families this Christmas. The club's junior vice president, Linda Locke, commented: "We were overwhelmed with the generosity and kindness that local people showed in supporting this worthwhile cause."

Within two weeks of launching the appeal, Linda's garage was full with donations of toys and backpacks which will be given to children who have been accommodated in safe houses by the Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service (formerly Wiltshire Women's Refuge).

Representatives of the service were very grateful to local residents as their donations will ensure that children living in safe houses because their lives have been affected by domestic violence will now receive presents from Santa on Christmas morning. The Rotary Club of Royal Wootton Bassett and District also donated £250 from club fundraising events to buy toiletries for the adults living in the safe houses to unwrap on Christmas Day.

Thanks to the outstanding generosity of local people, Royal Wootton Bassett and District Rotary Club were also able to give some of the toys to the Old Town Swindon Rotary Club appeal for Children in Care.
