NORTH-EAST and North Yorkshire dog owners have been left wondering how often they are allowed to walk their pet during the third Covid lockdown.

You are only allowed to leave the house for essential reasons and work, and for exercise once a day.

But the Cabinet Office has confirmed you can also walk your dog - as much as your dog needs.

While current guidance does ask the North-East and North Yorkshire, along with the whole country, to stay home and local, there is no limit to how many times you can take your dog out.

A spokesperson from the Cabinet Office said: "You can leave your home and area to attend to the care and exercise of an animal. The guidance does not currently place a limit on how often this can be done.

"That being said, we would also reaffirm the instruction within the guidance that you should minimise time spent outside your home."

Amongst the reasons you can travel:

  • outdoor exercise. This should be done locally wherever possible, but you can travel a short distance within your area to do so if necessary (for example, to access an open space)
  • attending the care and exercise of an animal, or veterinary services.
