WHILE travel is restricted in the current, England-wide Covid lockdown, you can make essential journeys such as work. Here are the planned roadworks on North-East roads including the A1.

Highways England publishes a list of roads that are set to shut as improvement works take place, but this is generally when roads are quieter and through the night.

Planning essential journeys in advance will help minimise time spent away from your home during lockdown. 

These are the major roads in the North-East that will see partial closures this week, according to the roads agency. 

  • A1: 

A1(M) northbound within J61 - Northbound (County Durham) 

Lanes one and two will be closed on the A1M northbound between junctions J60 and J61 due to planned roadworks 

Drivers are being told to expect disruption every day between 8pm and 6am from January 12 to 15.. There will be further disruption everyday between 8pm and 6am from January 26 to 28, where all lanes will be closed. 

The same applies for the A1M northbound exit slip at junction J61. 

A1(M) J60 northbound access - Northbound (County Durham) 

Lanes one and two will be closed on the A1M northbound entry slip at junction J60 due to planned roadworks are planned.  

Drivers are being told to expect disruption everyday between 8pm and 6am from January 12 to 15 and again between 8pm and 6am on January 26 to 28, when all lanes will be closed.  

A1(M) J61 northbound exit - Northbound (County Durham) 

Lane two will be closed on the A1M northbound exit slip at junction J61 from 9.30am on January 12 to 1.30pm. 

A1 southbound between A1167 near Berwick-Upon-Tweed (south) and B1340 - Southbound (Northumberland) 

There will also be planned roadworks on the A1 southbound between the junctions with the A1167 north of Berwick-Upon-Tweed and the A1068. They are scheduled for 8pm on January 12 to 6am on January 13. 

A1 northbound between B1340 and A1167 near Berwick-Upon-Tweed (south) - Northbound (Northumberland) 

Planned roadworks will also see disruptions on the opposite side of the A1, northbound between the junctions with the A1068 and the A1167. The roadworks for the route south of Berwick-Upon-Tweed are scheduled for 8pm on January 12 to 6am on January 13. 

  • A66:

A66 westbound between A135 and A1150 – Westbound (Stockton) 

Lane one will be closed on the A66 westbound between the junctions with the A135 and the A1150 as emergency barrier repairs are planned. Drivers are told to expect disruption every day between 8pm and 5.30am from January 12 to 14. 

A66 eastbound between A67 near Bowes and A1(M) - Eastbound (County Durham) 

There are planned emergency roadworks on the A66 eastbound between the junctions with the A67 and the A1M. They will take place through the night, from 8pm on January 12 to 5.30am tomorrow morning. 

The same applies to those travelling westbound in this area. 

  • A19:

A19 southbound between A684 and A61/A168 - Southbound (Northallerton) 

Lane one will be closed on the A19 southbound between the A684 and the junction with the A61 as road repairs are planned from 8pm today, January 12, to 6am January 13 

A19 northbound exit for A61/A168 - Northbound (County Durham) 

Lane two on the A19 northbound exit slip to the A61 will be closed due to planned roadworks.  

Drivers should expect disruption every day between 9.30am and 3.30pm from January 12 to 14. 

A19 northbound within the A182 near Murton junction - Northbound (County Durham) 

One lane will be closed on the A19 northbound between the A182 Easington and the junction with the A182 Murton due to planned roadworks. 

Works will take place from 8pm on January 12, 6am on 13 January 2021. This will also affect the A19 northbound exit slip to the A182, where one of two lanes will be closed.
