Three men have been charged with assaulting a prison officer inside Woolwich's high-security jail, HMP Belmarsh.
The men, all in their early 20s, are alleged to have attacked the officer on May 11 last year, causing actual bodily harm before attacking a second officer..
HMP Belmarsh is a Category A prison situated across 60 acres of the old Ministry of Defence site in Woolwich.
It holds some of the worst criminals in the country, including murderders, rapist and terrorists, as well as high profile figures such as Julian Assange.
The three men charged on Tuesday, 12 January 2021 with actual bodily harm are:
- Hashem Abedi, 23
- Ahmed Hassan, 21
- Muhammed Saeed, 22
Met Police added: "Abedi was also charged with assault on an emergency worker (a second prison officer).
"The charges relate to an incident at HMP Belmarsh on 11 May 2020."
The three men are due to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 7 April 2021.
