An 'outstanding' nursery says it is “devastated and truly sorry” after a serious safeguarding incident.

Ofsted gave The Lloyd Park Centre in Winns Avenue, Walthamstow, until February 9 to ensure children are “always within sight or hearing”, along with other improvements, after an incident on February 1.

Lloyd Park Children’s Charity, which runs the centre, wrote on Facebook that the incident “will damage the trust our community has in us” but did not go into more detail.

It has so far not responded to two comments asking what happened at the nursery.

A spokesperson for the charity told the Local Democracy Reporting service today that it “can’t provide any more information while our investigation is underway”.

In a report on the incident published today (February 5), Ofsted acknowledged that the nursery had done the right thing by informing them of the incident.

However, it added that a phone call the next day showed it was “not meeting some of the requirements” for childcare providers.

The Lloyd Park Centre, which received Ofsted's highest 'outstanding' rating after its most recent inspection in 2018, was given a week to address three concerns.

The centre must ensure “staff have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities” and improve its risk assessments.

It must also “ensure that staff deployment is effective to ensure that children are usually within sight and hearing of staff and always within sight or hearing”.

The public Facebook post written by the charity on February 3 reads: “We know that this will damage the trust our community has in us and we want to reassure you that we have taken steps to improve practice immediately.

“We are devastated and truly sorry that this has happened and we are committed to taking the steps necessary to regain trust and sustain outstanding levels of service.”
