Work is due to get underway tomorrow on enhancing traffic calming measures in a number of roads across Waltham Forest over the coming months.

A notice in this week’s Guardian from the London Borough of Waltham Forest states that temporary road closures will be necessary while traffic calming cushions are converted to humps and other unspecified traffic calming measures are put in place.

Road signs will specify which roads are shut and when but access to properties will be maintained wherever possible, subject to the extent and operation of the closures.

The roads affected are: Avondale Road, E17; Bisterne Avenue, E17, Douglas Avenue, E17; Fyfield Road, E17; Guildsway, E17; James Lane, E10; Keith Road, E17; Lancaster Road, E11; Lansdowne Road, E11; Lyne Crescent, E17; Malvern Road, E11; Onra Road, E17; Sansom Road, E11; Trelawn Road, E10; The Drive, E17; Walthamstow Avenue; Williams Avenue, E17.

The order will be valid for 18 months from February 18 but the council stress: “These works would not be carried out in all roads, in all sections of roads, or simultaneously in all roads mentioned in this notice but in a sequence as directed by the council to allow access and egress from adjoining roads or closures.

“Signage will be placed in advance of any works in these roads which would give more specific details on the exact dates of the prohibitions, effects of any temporary traffic management and diversion routes as necessary. Construction works will be carried out during daytime or overnight.”

Meanwhile, another order is due to come into force from tomorrow for the temporary closure of Grove Road E17 to allow Thames Water to connect water to a development.

The order will be in place for 12 months and will affect the road between its junctions with Hoe Street and Nos. 3 and 5 Grove Road.

However, the council state that people in the area will be notified in advance of the works taking place through the distribution of leaflets and signs placed in the affected roads.
