A Covid-19 patient who hasn't seen her son since October has been released from hospital following 99-day stay.

Jane Alsop from Dagenham was discharged from Sahara A ward at Queen’s Hospital earlier this week after a lengthy stay of 99 days.

The hospital is run by Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT), which also runs King George Hospital in Ilford.

Jane, who works in community care, described battling Covid-19 as “scary” and said our rehab team had to essentially help her learn how to walk again.

The 54-year-old was discharged on Tuesday, February 16 and says she is looking forward to making up for lost time with her loved ones.

"I've not seen my son since October and I missed his birthday; it's been really difficult", she said.

Speaking on the care she received from trust staff, Jane said: "They’ve all been amazing, I’ve liked to keep them on their toes! But I really appreciate everything they've done for me. I feel lucky to be on the road to recovery."

Significant building work is being carried out across the trust's two hospital sites.

One of the trust's major schemes, the relocation of the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at King George Hospital (KGH), is in the final stages of completion while another, the Children and Young People’s Assessment Unit (CYPAU) at Queen’s Hospital, started this week.

Work on the UTC began in September 2020.

Vikki Butler, BHRUT's director of clinical service reconfiguration, said: “This project has allowed us to make good use of the space available at King George Hospital. Moving the UTC out of our emergency department means there is more space in the ED which we are now reconfiguring.”
