A man is fighting for his life following a hit-and-run in Waltham Abbey this morning.

The victim, a pedestrian in his 50s, was struck by a grey BMW 3 Series in Farm Hill Road at about 10am (Friday, April 16).

The car failed to stop at the scene and the man has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The car was found abandoned less than a mile away in Valley Close.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and are keen to speak to the driver of the car.

Officers remain on scene and a road closure is in place at the junction between Farm Hill Road and Howard Close.

It is expected to last until this evening and motorists are urged to avoid the area where possible.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened or has dash cam footage is asked to contact Essex Police.

You can submit a report online at www.essex.police.uk or use the 'Live Chat' button to speak to an online operator between 7am-11pm or call 101, quoting incident 309 of 16 April.

Information can also be given to independent charity Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
