Police officers dealing with a nearby incident when they noticed to smoke billowing from a building in Ilford on Sunday.
The police were dealing with a minor incident, when they saw smoke coming from a flat above a shop on York Mews in Ilford on April 18.
The officers called London Fire Brigade to the scene at 6.44pm and alerted nearby residents to leave their homes.
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters attended.
Most of a first floor flat was damaged by the fire and part of a second floor flat was also damaged. There were no reports of any injuries.
Fire crews from Ilford, Stratford and East Ham fire stations reported the fire under control at 7.48pm.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
