Two eat London restaurants have been given the worst possible hygiene ratings in the last week.

East Ocean Cuisine in Ilford and Oriental Kitchen in Walthamstow have been rated zero out of five by council food safety officers in recent inspections

Officers have deemed "urgent improvement is necessary".

Chinese takeaway East Ocean Cuisine, in Eastern Avenue, has a mixed history when it comes to hygiene ratings.

The restaurant, which on its website claims to "guarantee 100 per cent natural, fresh and healthy food", was previously rated three out of five or "generally satisfactory" following an inspection in 2019.

In 2018 the takeaway was slapped with a one out of five rating and in 2014 it was rated three out of five.

Oriental Kitchen, in Forest Road, also a Chinese takeaway, has been slapped with a zero rating.

It is the restaurants first zero rating following a long history of satisfactory scores.

In 2020, 2019, 2017 and 2015 Oriental Kitchen was rated three out of five by council officers.

However, it has failed its latest inspection.

When inspecting a premise, food safety officers review three criteria:

  • Hygienic food handling
  • Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building
  • Management of food and systems to ensure food served is safe to eat
