These two photos of Old Church Road in Chingford, looking north towards the Greene Man, are more than 50 years apart.
The one above from c1900 is of a very rural Chingford in the county of Essex with cyclists and walkers, perhaps travelling between the hamlet of Chingford Green and Chingford Mount.
Gomme’s Farm can just be seen to the left. It was demolished in 1952.
The second photo highlights the loss of farming land to extensive housing development and eventual incorporation into a London borough in 1965.
