It has been a bizarre period for the weather - with snow showers, lots of sunshine, and 60mph winds taking turns to dominate in Watford.

April was the third coldest on record, and it was also the chilliest May Bank Holiday ever, so when will temperatures finally start to rise?

The next few days in Watford will see the mercury begin to increase from 11° up to 14° on Saturday, with a mixture of cloud, sunny spells, and rain forecast for Thursday, Friday and Saturday respectively.

Sunday, however, sounds like it has beer garden potential - with a pleasant 17° and cloud forecast for Watford.

Sadly, that looks likely to be short-lived, with Monday and Tuesday dropping back down to 15° and 14° respectively, though at least it should stay dry.

So, when will it get warmer and stay that way, we hear you ask, as you shiver away in your winter coats!

According to the Met Office's long-range forecast for up to Tuesday, May 18, not for a while yet.

It warns to expect potential gales next week in the south and east before there is then "a chance of warmer conditions for the SE".

But the week after, starting May 17, the general outlook is "remaining unsettled for the rest of the period with showers, longer spells of rain and strong winds, with temperatures likely to dip back below average, or remain close to".

Sigh.
