Residents are being urged to voice their views on upcoming plans to redevelop Southend United’s Roots Hall home.

The Shrimpers, who will compete in non-league football for the first time following their relegation from League Two this season, could depart Roots Hall under proposals to build a new stadium and 850 homes at Fossetts Farm.

Roots Hall, which has been Blues’ home since 1955, will be demolished and turned into nine buildings comprising 502 homes, should plans be given the green light.

Plans, which are yet to be approved, show the buildings are set to be between two and eight storeys tall.

Car and cycling parking would also be available, along with amenity space.

Changes would see the buildings profiting from vehicular access from Fairfax Drive, Roots Hall Avenue and Shakespeare Drive, while pedestrian and cycle access would be made available from Victoria Avenue.

The plans for Blues to relocate to Fossetts Farm are set to go ahead despite the club suffering back-to-back relegations in consecutive seasons.

Southend Council is calling for those who have views about the proposals to get in touch within 21 days by visiting southend.gov.uk/publicaccess.
