Around 60 firefighters were called to a blaze in East Finchley this morning affecting two semi-detached properties.

The two homes' roofs in Hill Top were well alight when the London Fire Brigade arrived at just gone 3am.

Station Commander Sacha Clement, who was at the scene, said: "Firefighters were faced with a well developed fire when they arrived.

"One of our new 32-metre turntable ladders was at the scene and was used to tackle the blaze from height."

The road was closed for several hours as firefighters damped down the properties. 

The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took seven calls to the blaze.

It was called at 3.11am and the fire was under control by 5.15am.

Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters from Finchley, Hendon, Hornsey, West Hampstead and surrounding fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
