Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a 35-year-old man was found with stab wounds.

The Metropolitan Police says it was called at 2.50pm on Monday 31 May to Romford Road, E7, to reports of a crash.

Officers attended and found a man with stab injuries.

An abandoned moped, two helmets, and a knife were also found at the scene.

Following enquiries, police say the man was stabbed in Capel Road, near Wanstead Flats, at around 2.30pm by two suspects on a moped.

Police say the injured man then pursued the riders in a blue Land Rover before colliding with them in Romford Road.

The moped riders fled the scene but the Land Rover driver stayed at the scene until emergency services arrived.

He was taken to hospital for treatment before being discharged.

Police say enquiries are ongoing to trace the moped riders.

The Met added a 35-year-old man has since been arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and he has been taken into police custody where he remains.

Detective Inspector Daniel Thompson, of North East Command, said: "Detectives from the North East Command are investigating this serious incident which took place in a public place, and are keen to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity at the time.

"As we piece together what happened, any information - however small - could be crucial and I would urge people to come forward. I would like to reassure the local community that whilst this is believed to be an isolated incident, they can expect to see enhanced patrols from their neighbourhood officers in the coming days."
