The picture above is thought to be the oldest photo of Epping High Road from around 1865.
Looking towards the Old Chapel of St Johns in the distance, the town is absent of trees, pavements and street lighting. How different the street scene looks today.
The Cock Inn can be seen on the left, one of Epping’s oldest hostelries that held a license since 1552. It closed in 2014.
