Officers based in Waltham Forest and Newham made 92 arrests during the 'Community Matters' week of action this month.

The week focused on tackling anti-social behaviour, drug use, sexual offences and vehicle theft. All of the arrests were in direct response to issues raised by the local community.

Police removed “drugs, weapons and criminals off the streets.”

Police increased their presence by conducting 134 foot patrols using stop and search tactics along with the area being regularly swept for weapons.

As well making arrests during the week, which began on 4 October, police also distributed safety leaflets and 100 property marking kits to residents to help safeguard their belongings.

Detective Chief Superintendent Richard Tucker from the North East Command Unit said: “During this week of action we have successfully removed drugs, weapons and criminals off the streets of Newham and Waltham Forest.

“Illegal drug use, antisocial behaviour, sexual offences and violent crime are a big concern for the area and we’ll continue to track down offenders and prevent crime.

“It’s been a great opportunity to increase our support, visibility and communication and take preventative action as well as responding to crime.

“It has never been more important to demonstrate to people that we will take robust action to keep our communities safe.
