A creative illustration celebrating the Waltham Forest community has been unveiled at ‘Coronation Square’ a new public space as part of a major regeneration project.
Just a stone’s throw away from Leyton High Road, Coronation Square will consist of 750 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, including seven two-bed townhouses.
The joint development by Taylor Wimpey and Waltham Forest Council will see 50 per cent affordable housing.
Coronation Square, will act as a focal point for new residents and the surrounding community.
The square will be bounded by commercial space for existing and start-up businesses, as well as cafes and shops.
The site will include a new sports hall, an early years nursery (with outdoor play space) and an NHS medical hub.
The new artwork featured prominently on the hoardings around the new site incorporates many aspects of Waltham Forest life, including the ‘Leyton’ sign, Leyton library, the Leytonstone film festival, the drag night at the Northcote pub, the Walthamstow wetlands, and the residents, shop owners and workers on Leyton High Road.
The artwork was created by Leyton-based Becky Bolton and Louise Chappell, who spent time in their community talking to residents to find out what Leyton means to them.
The artists added: “We wanted the people and area of Waltham Forest to be celebrated in this artwork, by capturing community in all senses and types.
“Our design tries to encapsulate the pride, optimism and positivity that seems to be happening in area."
