The Metropolitan Police and Redbridge Council are urging residents to take extra precaution to protect their homes and property, as we move into the darker winter months.

Research revealed that burglaries increase by an average of 35 per cent during winter, with the longer, darker nights providing cover for criminal opportunists and making it easier to spot unoccupied homes.

In a bid to address this issue, Redbridge Council have teamed up with Metropolitan Police’s local Burglary and Robbery Investigation Team to deliver a webinar focusing on how to deter and prevent burglaries.

The webiner held on November 18 will include a live Q&A with the Police and the Cabinet Member for Crime, cllr Khayer Chowdhury.

Speaking ahead of the event, cllr Chowdhury said:

“Ahead of the nights becoming longer, which is when we know that burglary incidents increase across the country, we have been working hard to deter burglars.

“However, it’s also vitally important that we as residents, put some simple safety tips into action to make it harder for burglars to break in. Police will be giving lots of advice and help on the best ways to keep homes secure as most burglaries are opportunistic.”

The webinar will be hosted on the Microsoft Teams Platform via this link at 6:30pm.
