Blind Lane (now Church Lane), Loughton, c1910 with the parish church of St John the Baptist through the trees.
Built in 1846, by Sidney Smirke in neo-Norman style, the building was extended in 1877. The total build cost of St John’s at the time, including furnishings, was around £6,500.
A modern-day view of the church
Despite being slightly damaged by bombing in the Second World War, the church remains a landmark at the top of the hill.
