Two men have been sentenced for a rape plotted on social media in a "depraved and callous set-up".

The assault happened at a gathering she thought she was attending in Walthamstow in September 2019.

The Metropolitan Police say the 23-year-old victim agreed to go to the event on September 21 with a man she had been speaking with online for around five months.

She was picked up by that man, who was joined in the car by Eloi Sesay, 32, of Wood Street, Walthamstow, and Olamide Oluwajana, 33, of Penn Gardens, Romford.

When they arrived at the address, the woman asked when others would be arriving and she was told they would be coming later on.

Police say that evening at the property, she had consensual sex with the man she had been speaking to online.

But Sesay later entered the bedroom and when the woman’s online acquaintance moved away, he took his place on the bed and raped her.

While he was raping her, Oluwajana came in and sexually assaulted the woman.

A picture of the victim taken while the assaults were taking place was later found by police.

In her struggle to escape the attack, the woman snapped one of her acrylic fingernails, which police later found during investigations.

She managed to get dressed and left the property on foot, going to Wood Street Station and from there to the home of a friend. She reported the rape the following day.

Sesay was convicted of rape at Snaresbrook Crown Court on May 6 and jailed on May 23 for eight years.

Oluwajana received a suspended two-year sentence.

Detective Sergeant Sarah Oyasodun said: “There was a clear trail of evidence, including a WhatsApp chat group that clearly showed an element of planning to get women to the address for sex.

“The victim, believing that she had formed a relationship with a man over a number of months, is now a survivor of a depraved and callous set-up that resulted in a terrifying assault.

“The bravery she showed in coming forward is commendable and I hope that the sentences handed down bring her a small measure of comfort and a sense that justice has been done.”
