A view of Chingford’s old Victorian police station from c1900.
In the 1870s there were concerns about the increase in lawlessness, in particular rowdy behaviour by some of the many visitors to the forest.
The station was built in 1887 and replaced the old village lock-up.
A new larger station was built in 1977.
