A NEW logistics centre could be set up in the district to monitor security and traffic as work continues on building the arenas for the London 2012 Olympics.

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has lodged a planning application with Epping Forest District Council to construct a compound off junction 5 of the M11, near the Chigwell Road Policing Unit.

Together with similar centres in Bow, and Barking and Dagenham, the compound will help monitor and process construction vehicles approaching the Olympic site, in Stratford.

A spokesman for the ODA said: “Vehicles coming from the north will come to the M11 centre and be checked for security. They will then be given an allocated time to go down to Stratford when they have room.”

The spokesman stressed that the land, which will be leased from the Highways Authority, will be restored to its original condition when the games have finished.
