THE Guardian-sponsored Redbridge Carnival is ready to set the borough alight this weekend with a fantastic range of entertainment and activities.

With a world record-breaking escapologist and a circus skills school, rounders, basketball and football tournament, nobody will be bored and the only problem will be finding enough time to fit everything in.

Carnival organising committee chairman Wilson Chowdry said he hoped to get more than 10,000 people attending over the weekend.

He added: “It’s about bring back to Redbridge a focal point to the social calender. It gives local talent the chance to showcase their skills. The spirit of carnival is all about spreading community cohesion.

“Despite the change of venue, nothing has been sacrificed from the programme. We now have a three-mile procession and there’s going to be something for everyone.”

Redbridge Carnival runs from 2pm to 8pm on Saturday and Sunday in Goodmayes Park, Ilford, with the procession starting in Ilford Town Centre at 12noon on Sunday.
