HUNDREDS of Rose Smith’s closest family and friends packed into Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Cambridge Park Avenue, Wanstead, for her funeral this morning.

The 18-year-old died under a tube train at Wanstead Underground Station late on Friday, August 22.

Guests were asked to wear an item of pink clothing in tribute to Rose and the mainly young congregation obliged, with pink shoes, ribbons, and one guest even sporting a pink mohican.

There was standing room only in the church with guests lining the aisles, and one youngster had to be offered a seat after she collapsed.

Rose’s friend Holly paid tribute to her, telling the congregation: “We will always keep Rose in our hearts. She would always make us laugh with her ridiculous comments and she liked nothing more than to sit in my front room, eat her favourite meal, chow mein and chips, and have a laugh.”

Rose’s sister Olivia said: “Now I realise just how much impact Rose made on my life. She wasn’t just a sister but a best friend as well. Although she is gone I will always remember her as she taught me right from wrong. I love you Rose, rest in peace.”

The song ‘Heaven’ by DJ Sammy was played to the congregation and pallbearers were in tears as they carried Rose’s white wicker coffin, covered in flowers, out of the church.

Rose’s body was buried in the Epping Forest Burial Park in Essex.
