A WOMAN will remember her visit to the supermarket for all the wrong reasons – after she crashed her car through a fence and into a building as she went to leave the car park.

The 54-year-old woman, from the Sussex area, escaped uninjured when she appears to have put her foot on the accelerator rather than the brake as she left the Sainsbury car park in Bansons Lane, Ongar, this afternoon.

The BMW crashed through fencing, by the footpath which leads to Ongar Health Centre, and came to rest embedded in the wall of the BT exchange building.

Extensive damage was caused to the car which was taken away on a low-loader recovery truck following the incident which happened at 1.20pm.

Crime reduction officer Tony Ellis told the Guardian: “It would appear that the driver applied the accelerator rather than the brake as she was leaving Sainsbury’s car park which caused the vehicle to cross the road and hit the fence and telephone exchange. She was not injured.”
