THE countdown is underway for the lucky youngsters cast in this year’s Harlow Council Playhouse pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

More then 160 young people turned up to the open auditions at The Playhouse hoping for a part in the show which runs from December 12 to January 11 and is being produced by New Pantomime Productions.

Forty-nine young people have been offered parts as dwarfs, babes and senior dancers.

Simon Barry, who is directing for pantomime for New Pantomime Productions, said: “We were all amazed at the standard of the people auditioning, particularly the seniors. There were some really exceptional young people taking part.

“We’ve offered parts to 49 people, all of whom will be very much involved in the show. There’s a great mix of stuff for them to get their teeth into.”

Harlow Council environment and community committee chairman Eddie Johnson said: “It’s important that there will be a strong community feel to the show. It’s great so many local young people auditioned. I very much hope they enjoy the experience and hope people continue to get behind what I’m sure will be a fantastic show.”

Harlow Council leader Andrew Johnson said: “The success of these open auditions is evidence that The Playhouse is still playing an important role in the community and will continue to do so.

“Council officers involved in the management of The Playhouse have come into some unfair criticism of late and I would like to place on record that I’m very pleased with the continuing success of The Playhouse and would like to thank the officers and volunteer staff for their ongoing hard work.”
