FUNDING for 100 new street trees will be given to organisations in Waltham Forest, London Mayor Boris Johnson has announced.
The borough is among 20 in London to be given the cash as part of the second phase of a program aiming to make London a more pleasant place to live.
The money will go to councils, community groups or charities who applied for money through the Mayor’s tree fund, which is managed by the Forestry Commission.
The Mayor, Boris Johnson, said: “Trees are wonderful additions to our communities helping to make neighbourhoods more pleasant.
“I am thrilled with the success of this programme in planting these trees in the areas that will benefit most.”
The trees will be planted between November and Spring next year. The successful organisations will speak to residents who registered an interest in having new trees planted in their streets to decide on suitable locations.
