POLICE have issued a warning to residents in the district about bogus charity clothes collections following the arrest of two men in east Essex.

Officers say conmen could be operating across the county using fake appeals for old outfits and shoes.

Police are urging residents to check up on all such appeals by calling any numbers given on leaflets asking for donations.

It comes after two men were charged with fraud in connection with a charity collection in the Alresford area on November 4.

A 33-year-old man from Hounslow, west London and a man aged 20 from Plaistow, east London, have been bailed to appear at Colchester magistrates’ court on November 24.
