FINLAND'S top karate instructor paid a visit to Chingford Karate Club and gave students a special course in the martial art.
The local club, now in its 21st year, hosted the course as part of its anniversary celebrations and people from all over the country travelled to be taught by Sensei Willy Ortiz, the chief instructor of Finland.
The course included basic classes for newer students and a study of more advanced techniques for the those with black and brown belts.
Chingford Karate Club was the founder member of Shotokan Karate England, which is now accepted by Sport England as a legitimate organisation Rod Butler, chief instructor at the club, said: "I was surprised and very pleased by such a high turnout and happy that everyone enjoyed the course."
The two senseis are working on a book together about the history and development of karate which will be published at the end of the year. The club is also due a visit from the England karate coach, Sensei Ticky Donovan OBE, and places on this course are already being snapped up.
