YOUNG people are being invited to come up with ideas on promoting messages on crime and anti-social behaviour.

A competition has been launched offering youngsters the chance to win an iPod Touch in exchange for coming up with the best ideas to spread the word on how the council and police tackle the problem.

Run by the authority’s Youth Crime Prevention Service, the contest is open to young people aged 12 to 19.

They are being asked to design t-shirts and posters, write songs, or come up with a new way to share the message with their peers.

Winning entrants in each category will receive an iPod Touch and will also see their ideas become part of a local campaign.

The campaign is aimed at telling young people what is being done to reduce crime and is also designed to make them feel safer.

The competition will be divided into two age categories, 12 to 14 and 15 to 19.

All entries must include one or more messages about youth crime and safety from the council's website or flyers sent to schools and youth clubs.

The deadline is Friday April 30.
