ONE of the country's most senior judges has said Harlow Magistrates' Court should not be closed.

Lord Justice Goldring has drawn up a list of institutions he would like to see preserved, including Harlow, which serves as the main magistrates' court for the Epping Forest District, although he has recommended closure for Epping Magistrates' Court.

He was asked by the government to look into which courts could potentially be closed to save money and has now reported back with his recommendations which also include preserving Harlow County Court.

In July, the Government named 103 courts across the country which it said could potentially be closed to save money including Epping Magistrates' Court and Harlow Magistrates' and County courts.

If Harlow was to close, people in the Epping Forest District would have to travel to an expanded magistrates' court in Chelmsford.
