THE newly formed Waltham Forest Radical History Workshop group is to host a talk on the great London matchwomen strike of 1888 next month.
Author Louise Raw, who has published a book on the subject, will deliver the lecture at the Orford House Social Club in Orford Road, Walthamstow, on Tuesday October 11.
The strike was held in protest at poor factory conditions and ultimately led to a change in the law to better protect matchmakers.
A spokesman for the history group said: "Raw proves conclusively that these women changed the entire course of British labour history, and were in fact the mothers of the modern union movement."
It starts at 7.30pm.
