WORK is set to begin on improving footbridges across the A12 in Leytonstone.
The three walkways, from Church Lane, Dyers Hall Road and Langthorne Road, have long been blighted by graffiti and there have calls for greater security after they become crime hotspots.
Transport for London, which is responsible for the bridges, has announced improvement work will begin on Monday (October 24).
New lighting will be installed on all the footbridges.
The Dyers Hall Road bridge, which will be closed until January next year, will have a new enclosure and CCTV installed.
Further work is scheduled to take place after the Olympics.
