POLICE want to speak to rush-hour commuters who witnessed a woman shouting racist abuse at a man at Leyton Tube station.
The 45-year-old victim was subjected to a torrent of obscenities by a woman standing next to him on the westbound platform at around 8.30am last Tuesday (October 11).
British Transport Police (BTP) have arrested a 39-year-old in connection with the incident but say they need more information.
Investigating BTP Detective Constable Steve Ajayi said the station was very busy at the time.
He added: “We have made an arrest and are keen to speak to as many witnesses as possible to build a clear picture of what happened.
“There would have been lots of people on the platform who saw the incident and I am asking anyone who has any information to please get in contact to help our enquiries.”
The arrested woman has been bailed to return to police in early November.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information which may help police, is urged to call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 quoting background log number B16/LUA of 14/10/11.
Alternatively, witnesses can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
