NOT content with playing in one of the world’s most successful bands, Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood will be hoping to impress crowds with his paintings at a new exhibition.

Five works of art by Wood showing himself and other members of rock band the Rolling Stones will be shown at Artisan Fine Art in Epping High Street from Saturday (October 22).

Wood has been painting for more than 30 years and said his art had been a constant part of his life.

“There is no kind of therapy like the one you have from starting and seeing a picture through to the end,” he added. “When I get inspired, I get almost possessed and I just have to paint.

“Unlike music, it’s a solo effort. There’s no-one else to blame. Then again, no-one else gets the satisfaction out of it.”

He counts Matisse, Van Gough and Picasso among his artistic influences and paints from his studio in the East End of London, as well as making prints.

He still plays guitar for the Rolling Stones and previous bands include The Faces, which he played in during the 1970s with Epping resident Rod Stewart.

The exhibition will run until mid-December.
