A SYNAGOGUE welcomed a special guest for a biblical festival.
The Woodford Liberal Synagogue in Marlborough Road, South Wooford welcomed Rabbi Dr Deborah Khan-Harris, principle of Leo Baeck College, in Finchley, and her family to celebrate the Jewish festival of Sukkot on Sunday.
During Sukkot a walled structure called a Sukkah is made by covering trellise with plant material such palm leaves and vegetables and during the seven-day celebration meals are eaten inside it.
The Sukkah is then blessed by shaking a Lulav, willow, palm and myrtle entwined and holding an Etrog, a lemon-like citron.
After the Sukkah was built, food and prayers were shared.
Rabbi Richard Jacobi of Woodford Liberal Synagogye said: "A visit by the Principal of Leo Baeck College and her family emphasised the principle of hospitality associated with the festival of Sukkot.
"It was lovely that she could teach and chat with our families spanning three generations as we ate, chatted and prayed together."
