A LEADING nuclear firm is set to create more jobs in Birchwood.

Jacobs has taken over Wood Nuclear, which currently employs 1,000 people in the town.

Another 250 people were already working for Jacobs in Warrington.

The team across the north west supports projects and programmes across nuclear and defence, transportation, environmental, buildings, and other sectors – helping clients tackle challenges like cleaner energy and air, security and resiliency, improved mobility and connectivity.

The takeover, worth around £250 million, means 300 to 400 extra people will be recruited during the next year – some of whom will work in Birchwood and a nearby office in Knutsford.

Jacobs' plans include investment in the UK's largest independent nuclear research, development and testing facilities at Birchwood Park to provide capability such as remote handling, cyber, inspection technology and test rig facilities.
