Labour has chosen its candidate for the Finchley and Golders Green Constituency.
Barnet borough councillor Ross Houston was yesterday selected to stand against Conservative MP Mike Freer, who has held the seat since 2010.
Cllr Houston won on the first ballot at a hustings event attended by Labour Party members, ahead of two other candidates, Emine Ibrahim and Michael Desmond.
He said: "I am delighted to be selected by my local party to be Labour's parliamentary candidate for Finchley and Golders Green. I relish to chance to take on Mike Freer, who has betrayed his constituents over his support for Boris Johnson's hard Brexit.
"I am a passionate Remainer and I am the only candidate in this race who is campaigning for a People's Vote."
Ross Houston is a councillor for West Finchley and deputy leader of the Barnet Labour Group as well as a board member of Barnet Homes and a housing expert.
He has also campaigned against Brexit. People in the Finchley and Golders Green constituency voted by almost 70 per cent to remain in the EU in the 2016 referendum.
