A talented young driver from Essex is striving to make a name for himself in go karting.

Lochlan Bearman, 12, caught the motor racing bug at an early age and has already achieved a lot in his relatively short career in the sport.

Since he started reacing at the age of six, Bearman has collected two MSA sanctioned championships; the 2010 Red Lodge Kart and the Hunts Kart Racing Club Championship in 2013, as well as two runner-up positions between 2011 and 2013.

He is also able to boast that 56 per cent of his races result in a trophy-winning position.

This year, Bearman is stepping up from the Honda Cadet to the Minimax category, which has karts with two stroke engines that can reach a top speed of 65 miles per hour.

“I always want to be winning,” said Bearman. “I like the adrenaline rush and to be in control when going fast.”

The youngster has also worked closely with cancer charity CLIC Sargent, using his talent in karting to help raise money for children diagnosed with the illness.

He said: “I saw that more than ten children are diagnosed with cancer everyday in the UK. If I can do anything to help I should.”

Bearman has made the transition to his new category well. He has finished in podium positions in two of his five races and targets a top-five finish in one of the Championships he will enter this year.
