Drivers from Bancroft's School’s karting team channelled their inner Lewis Hamilton by securing a slot in the London and South East Regional finals of this year’s British Schools’ Karting Championships.

The Woodford Green school took four teams comprising of three drivers to Teamsport Action for the regional qualifiers last week, with the top two qualifying for the regional finals.

Bancroft’s A and B teams secured their place in the finals thanks to dominant performances from Max Wieteska, Richard Buckley, Neel Tanna and Adam Ugradar, with the Woodford Green school claiming victory in each of the six individual races. Bancroft’s D team finished in third place, with the C team one position behind in fourth.

The school’s karting team was introduced three years ago and they secured a respectable 15th place finish in the national finals during their second year of competing.

Year 13 student and Bancroft’s captain Amir Sampat said: “At the practice session, the top nine Bancroft’s racers all finished within half a second of each other – a clear demonstration of our strength. I am thrilled to have qualified for the Regional Finals of the British Schools Karting Championship.

“It has been great to see the progress of the team’s young enthusiastic racers through the years. We hope to repeat last year’s success at the regional final in April and book our place in this year’s national final.”
